Being a newlywed myself the excitement and stress that comes along with the planning of a wedding is still fresh in my mind. Your wedding day will be one of the most joyful, and, expensive days of your life. I have not come across a bride who doesn’t want there wedding to be exquisite, a fairy tail wedding with decor that looks as if you hired David Tutera himself. The most crucial decorative item at your reception? Your centerpiece of course!
Of course most brides don’t have the luxury of affording a wedding planner and dishing out ridiculous amounts of money for show stopping centerpieces. I will show you how with a little creativity you can make your own centerpieces that look amazing without busting your budget.
What you will need: (Items listed are per centerpiece)
12″ glass vase
2 Battery operated LED branches
2 Submersible floralytes
4 cups Aqua Beads
Find a style vase that appeals to you, A 12″ vase will suffice. Scour the internet for deals, websites such as Ebay and save-on-crafts are a good place to start. Also, check out yard sales, and stores that specialize in surplus and salvage often you can find great products for a much lower cost.
For the centerpiece you will also need Aqua beads, these can usually be found at any local craft store but depending on what color scheme you would like to use the selection might be limited. The best choice I found was a website called crystalwaterbeads they offer the lowest price and best selection of colors available. For a 12′ vase you will need one packet, or 4 cups worth make sure you order the correct number of packets. Once you have you aqua beads they need to soak in water to grow, this takes 6-8 hours. (Tip use a large cooler so when the beads are ready you can just pull the drain plug and let the excess water drain out.)
Lit centerpieces are a new trend that is about to take off, LED branches can add an extra touch of ambiance to your wedding reception. Many websites offer an abundance of sizes and styles led branches. Some webpages to check out include: candlelightsolutions.com, Amazon, Ebay, and save-on-crafts, these offer the lowest prices and best selection, for a 12′ vase use two 19″ branches.
Submersible floralytes will add extra light to the centerpiece, they are cheap, and available in many colors. save-on-crafts.com offers them as well as wholesaleflowersandsupplies, again use two of these lights per centerpiece.
Once you have all your supplies and the aqua beads have been soaked and drained, fill each vase 3/4 full with the aqua beads, then take some saran wrap and cover the battery pack on the LED branches as a safety measure, the aqua bead throw off some moisture and the last thing you want is a short circuited centerpiece at your wedding. Turn on the branches and put them in the vase pushing the battery pack down to the bottom of the vase, the aqua beads will hide the battery pack and cord. After you adjust the branches turn on the submersible floralytes and push them down into the beads, this will make the beads look as if they are glowing. Place the finished centerpiece on your reception tables and watch as your guest marvel over your creativity!
