Yes, children nationwide may love Mickey Mouse. But children nationwide cannot get to go see the home of Mickey Mouse without mommy and daddy taking them there. They also aren’t allowed to watch the Disney Channel without the permission of mommy. All week, many children have learned to watch some new channels such as Nick, The Cartoon Network and even PBS. Why have children across the nation been asked or rather told to switch their channels?
Moms and even some dads are angry. They are angry with ABC. Who owns ABC? Yes, Mickey Mouse and all his little mice over at Disney own ABC.
It seems in the last few days, while many mommy’s and some daddy’s were busy, writing letters and making phone calls, to help get “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” saved, Disney wasn’t really noticing what was really happening in the real world, where little mice don’t actually run it. In this real world, little people notice everything that happens around them. They notice that big businesses are all tied together. They notice that ABC is owned by a bigger business, Disney. They noticed that Disney does have a say in what ABC does and doesn’t do. They notice that if they have an input in ABC’s ratings they have an input in Disney’s ratings, as well as the number of people who visit their national parks. They notice a lot of things, such as some reports that Disney is laughing at what the fans are doing to ABC, such as the fact they are boycotting their programming.
Yet, the little people have spoken and they have noticed Disney, as well as ABC. They have also been talking to sponsors of ABC and soon may be talking to sponsors of Disney, as well, them to help save “All My Children” and “One Life to Live.” They would like to see ABC rescind their decision to cancel these shows all together. They want Disney to take some action and quit hiding behind ABC’s coat-tails. We know that they really aren’t cute little mice. We know that actual men and women are running their board room and making their decisions.
What will happen if Disney doesn’t help these fans? People will quit watching their shows, will quit buying their movies, will quit buying their merchandise, etc.
Disney is supposed to be the most wonderful place on Earth. Well to the fans of these two shows, one of our most wonderful places on Earth, is in our front of our television sets for those two hours in the day in which we can relax and enjoy our time in Pine Valley and in Llanview. Don’t take that away from us.
