Today’s internet has given us a means to instantly gossip and whisper rumors to the ears of millions when the audience is tuned in and just ripe for spreading the poison and infective words. America in turmoil both morally and economically provides the media the proper channels to propagate such actions and effectively describes individual’s failures or misfortune in microseconds. Whether their target is a corporate rich man, Lady Gaga, Obama, Weiner, Palin or even Lebron during the NBA finals it has been established that the media can better armchair any event or newsmaker than any other source. Surely we have to admit that these individuals have often created the opportunities for rumors spreading, speculation or even second guessing others to incite people into some sort of transgression against others or just vent their frustrations to feel better. Emotional turmoil appears to be the root of this evil.
Blogs, emails and other electronic messaging run with anything to be the first to deliver the message whether truthful or correct. Their disregard for the impact and psyche of the target is totally ignored and becomes second in nature when considering the story. The news, balanced or unbalanced is delivered at micro speed to compete with others in the game. No signs of retreat are available thus the onslaughts will continue to occur. This endless game of gutless speculation and character assassination has no regard for those involved in these personal matters and indicate that the media is totally cognitive of their strategy but deliberately deliver the bad news or gossip to gain points in the advertising game. Today, rampant stories are printed and tweeted about people that include Hollywood stars, politicians who did some real stupid things and political gaffes of hopeful candidates for public office makes them all easy targets. As an armchair non-licensed psychologist I am ready to deliver an analysis that includes each and every medial outlet that reports gossip or misdeeds of others are suffering from what is known as the Peeping Tom syndrome. These sources need to send their editors to qualified therapists and have them undergo a series of tests to glean the status of their psychological status and what is perceived to be an off base mentality.
Guessing that it is the public’s voracious appetite for rumors and gossip that drives this conceptual thinking, the evidence is stacking up that this type of rumor spreading is detrimental to the moral character of the readers being wrongfully influenced by speculation as well as an insightful analysis that this type of reporting is running rampant like the bull run at Barcelona’s annual running of the bulls that has existed for over a thousand years. So as you tweet, post, delete, add or comment on your social media source the things you read in the paper and watch on the TV, make sure your portion of the vicious circle of rumors contains enough facts and sense to make your message whole and complete and most of all, factual. Don’t let these unsubstantiated and snipes of character assassination be your downfall as you yourself can become a victim of this type of gutter like conduct.
