Are you guilty of trying to diet while eating unhealthy diet foods at the same time? Guess what? You probably are eating foods that are deemed ‘diet’ foods but are in reality ruining your diet overall. Grr…as if dieting isn’t hard enough, now we have to make sure that we aren’t eating the wrong diet foods! Never fear, simply learn the diet foods you shouldn’t diet with, and you’ll be just fine and well on track.
If you are drinking diet soda instead of regular soda and calling this your diet solution, then smack yourself in the head and dump your soda down the drain. People who drink diet soda are more likely to gain weight rather than lose it, because it’s called sugar and additives, y’all. The last thing you need in your diet is a glassful (or 2, or 3…) of empty calories. Do yourself a flavor favor and just drink regular soda, you’re just as well off that way. Or skip soda entirely. Water is not only great for you and essential for survival, but it’s free.
Smoothies will drag you down as well, even if you’re using real fruit. Because you’re probably also using tons of sugar, cream, or whole milk, and other things to make your smoothie actually palpable. Here’s a quick fix- make your smoothie with bananas as your main fruit (they’re sweeter) and make your smoothie with plain yogurt (add honey for sweetener; flavored yogurt is full of sugar), soy milk, or low-fat or skim milk. And skip the sugar. It’s in the banana. Oh, and no chocolate, peanut butter, or fruity syrups, you cheater cheater, diet beater.
If you think artificial sweeteners will just shave off those pounds (it’s a miracle!), K, you must love punishing yourself first of all (have you ever tasted fake sugar?) but they don’t do you any good. Sugar is sugar is sugar, just like calories are calories are calories. You put sugar in your body, even the “fake” stuff, your body will find a way to transfer it to your ass. Skip the sugar entirely, or just go for the real stuff in moderation. Sheesh.
If you are “enjoying” light salad dressings, make sure they aren’t loaded with sugar or high fructose corn syrup (a fancy way of also being sugar) so you can avoid packing on the fat storage. Most light or fat-free salad dressings make up for flavor by adding a ton of sugar. You can challenge these light dressings by using less and adding flavorful things to your salad that are good for you, like arugula or beans. Beans burn belly fat anyhow, so, yay.
Do I even need to really mention TV diet dinners? Really- everyone knows these crap in a box meals are full of salt and preservatives to make it taste like real food. Plus, they’re expensive. Skip em and make a real meal already. Moving on…
Here’s the worst one, particularly if you think you’re pulling a slick one on your diet. Baked chips, those crispy wonders that are SO much healthier than the other variety, which are actually just more of those empty calories you don’t need. Sad, but yes, full of sugar, sodium, and all those calories you just plain don’t need, you’re better off with a rice cake. Grr… so if you love to drink your diet soda and eat your baked chips and think you’ll laugh your way all the way to the scales, guess again. Hate to burst your huge bubble, but it ain’t gonna work.
