Democracy = two wolves and one sheep voting on what is for dinner.

I do not know who said it, but its corollary is; Democracy = Two gang bangers and one teen age girl voting on what rape is.

Both illustrate the problem with democracy. It is mob rule. It has no moral basis. If 33% of the people say that taking half of your earnings and giving it to people who do not work is moral…then you lose half of your income. You have become a slave. You ask, why did I say 33% don’t you mean 51%? No absolutely not.

The best we can do in the USA is about 64% turnout. And that is extremely optimistic. So it is not even half of the country deciding to make you work for them, it is merely a third or less of the politically motivated on the fringe. When this happens (and it is happening) we begin to morph from a majority rule system, to a minority rule. When the minority can impose it’s will on the majority, then the majority become wards of the state. The majority will be made to work for the ruling class minority through the tax system. This is just another form of slavery. We must not allow this to occur.

We must not allow the fringe on the left or the fringe on the right to gain the upper hand. Freedom must be the factor that drives our government, not left or right. Both fringes are equally bad, but the bottom line is each of the fringes will require total submission to implement their democratic, progressive program. Both result in tyranny. In both cases, we lose. Those who founded this country and those who witnessed it understood this principle . Democracy is a system of government that the founding fathers warned us to avoid.

“The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public’s money.” – Alexis de Tocqueville (Democracy in America)

Are we not currently doing this?

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”
– Alexis de Tocqueville

“When the people find they can vote themselves money; that will herald the end of the republic.”
–Benjamin Franklin

This is why a participatory representative form of government is the only hope for our country’s future. We must be involved! If we sit on the sidelines and let other people vote then we have abandoned the heritage that has been our gift since the founding fathers fought, bled and died. Educate yourself, support strong constitutional freedom based candidates, run for office yourself. Do not let the minority speak on behalf of the majority.
