Daniel Radcliffe Talks About Wanting to Transform and Expand His Acting Image

He shot to super-stardom as a boy wizard and now – just as he faces the end of the “Harry Potter” franchise – Daniel Radcliffe is hard at work, trying to transform and expand his acting image.

The 21-year-old recently revealed to MTV that he was anxious about the upcoming year, noting that “the next 12 months are going to be quite telling” for him professionally.

Daniel has just kicked off his Broadway musical debut with the lead in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” a show that will keep him in the U.S. into next year and will go on to promote his star role in the supernatural flick “The Woman in Black,” which is scheduled for an early 2012 release.

With all that lies ahead of him, Radcliffe hopes to move past the “Potter” mold he’s been cast in, telling, “If I had been taking some time off and not doing stuff, I think the temptation in terms of the media and the public, to a certain extent, is [that] if you don’t hear from a child star for a while, you can kind of condemn them to the been-and-gone pile,” adding, “I wanted to make sure that didn’t happen.”

Venturing out for a bite to eat, Daniel Radcliffe was spotted heading to Extra Virgin in New York City’s West Village neighborhood on Tuesday (April 12).

The British actor kept his leisurely lunchtime date casual in a brown ball cap, black leather jacket, blue jeans and a pair of sneakers.

Daniel recently took to the press to express regret over taking his action hero status for granted in his “Harry Potter” days, saying, “I got to slide 40ft down a roof, I got burst out of a ring of fire. I got to do some really cool stuff. I probably won’t get to do that so much any more.”

Radcliffe also revealed that he’s come to accept that some fans may only ever see him as Potter, saying, “There will be some people who always see me as this character, I know that and understand that. That’s fine. As long as they are not casting directors and film makers, hopefully it won’t hold me back. That’s my attitude to it.”

It’s the first movie he shot after wrapping up the “Harry Potter” franchise, and Daniel Radcliffe looks dashing in the trailer for “The Woman in Black.”

The “Equus” stud stars in what’s being billed as “The most chilling ghost story of our time,” and the newly-released trailer seems to back up the claim.

Radcliffe plays Arthur Kipps, a man sent to deal with the legal matters of a mysterious shut-in who has just passed away.

However, while going through her affairs, Arthur begins to experience unexplained events and hauntings.
