We have reached the halfway point of the competition. Plus we’re celebrating the 1000th competitive dance of the show.
It’s Americana week and each team had to perform to a patriotic song.
Ralph Macchio & Karina Smirnoff- Brazilian Samba-Dressed in cowboy boots, and a western styled costume, Ralph and Karina danced to “Sweet Home Alabama.” He was at his most adorable and appeared as if he was having fun. Bruno must have forgotten it’s Americana week, because he told the couple to “give him sex.” The judges gave him 22 out of 30. I thought it was cuter than that, especially since he relaxed and wasn’t stiff this week.
Chris Jerico & Cheryl Burke- Viennese Waltz-They performed to a horrifying rendition of “America The Beautiful.” The singer was so awful that it was distracting from the dance. Chris managed to do a decent job as he waltzed his way through the technical piece. His lines were clean and his style showed improvement. The judges agreed as they gave him 26 out of 30.
Petra Nemcova & Dmitry Chaplin– Quickstep– Petra grew up in the Czech Republic and didn’t know who Elvis Presley’s music. Being a fast dance, it was difficult, and she did okay, but it wasn’t her best dance of the season. Her movements were sometimes choppy and her neck was stiff. The band did them no favors with their flat version of “Viva Las Vegas.” She received 22 out of 30.
Romeo & Chelsea Hightower- Foxtrot–Dressed in a tux, Romeo showed he still had swagger. This time, the band assisted with their best job of the night, as they performed, “New York, New York.” Romeo dedicated the song to his friends mother who was diagnosed with cancer last week. The judges finally gave this young man a score he deserved. He received 26 out of 30 points.
Hines Ward & Kym Johnson- Rumba-Hines and Kym played An Officer and a Gentleman to the worst version of “God Bless the USA,” I have ever heard. Given I used to be a military wife, and that song was played at every event held in the Army, that’s saying a lot. The dance was beautiful and romantic. Hines seemed a little stiff at times, but I would have been too if I had to perform to that screeching. The judges gave him 27 out of 30.
Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy- Foxtrot- John Travolta stopped by rehearsals to visit and advised Kirstie to wear high top sneakers. “American Woman” was performed by a shirtless Maksimmmmm, and oh, I noticed Kirstie was doing a good job too, when I was able to unglue my eyes from Maks. Although Kirstie needs to learn to throw her hair like a rocker, she can really move, especially for her age. Bruno called them, “The American Woman and Russian Gigolo” and wondered how to get a booking. She received 23 out of 30.
Kendra Wilkinson & Louis Van Amstel- Foxtrot-The show’s 1000th competitive dance. Kendra showed how real she was, for someone with bottle blonde hair and fake breasts, by breaking down and admitted she felt like Carrie Ann called her trash last week by calling her out for her lack of elegance. Kendra and Louis danced to “The Yankee Doodle Boy.” She tried hard, but just isn’t improving as much as the other celebrities. The judges gave her 22 out of 30.
Chelsea Kane & Mark Ballas- Samba-“Party in the USA” was destroyed by the band, but Chelsea and Mark gave an exceptional performance anyway. She received 26 out of 30, but I thought she was better than Hines.
Ralph, Petra, and Kendra are tied at the bottom of the leaderboard. They each have a score of 22. I’m not sure why Ralph is there given his performance was much better than either of the others. Hines is at the top with a score of 27. Again, I’m not sure why since Chelsea and Romeo both out danced him. We’ll see how that plays out tomorrow night when the viewers’ votes are added into the scores. Hopefully, Kendra will finally go home.
