COMMENTARY | Ann Coulter, the fork-tongued, liberal-bashing conservative pundit is looking to salt old wounds with her new book, “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob is Endangering America,” in which she compares liberals to a mob, one that she says resorts to name-calling, and elicits followers with ready-made slogans. Ultimately, Coulter declares the liberal mob as demonic.
This definitely is not the first time Coulter has caused a pronounced reaction from her right wing rhetoric. Here’s a look at the top three Coulter controversies:
Coulter Accuses Single Mothers of Raising Future Strippers
In 2009, Coulter boldly contended both in her book “Guilty: Liberal ‘Victims’ and Their Assault on America,” and on Fox News that single mothers are the direct cause of murders and rapes, and that the children of single mothers are future strippers. As a single mother, I have to address Coulter about her stance on fathers who molest their children. Does not crimes against the family occur in two-parent households, as well? It’s faulty logic to lump together any group of people and attribute moral or societal detriment to them. Coulter claims to be an evangelical Christian, though you won’t find Jesus personally attacking any group of people, or individual. On the contrary, Christianity teaches people to love their neighbor as their self, and not to judge people. I found this contention of Coulter highly offensive and ignorant.
Coulter Calls John Edwards a Slur
In 2007, at the 34th meeting of the conservative political action conference, Coulter really hit some nerves on both party sides when she called John Edwards a gay slur, which as most people know is a derogatory slang word for a homosexual. I don’t promote bigotry, or racism because I think that is what pollutes Christian character, but I do believe in free speech, so Coulter has a right to say what she wants. Hopefully, her ignorant slurs won’t influence our youth to adopt such intolerance toward people. I would like to point out the blatant hypocrisy that Coulter is guilty of because she claims in her newest book that what partly makes liberal democrats a mob is their use of name-calling.
Coulter Calls for America to Nuke North Korea
In an interview with George Gurley of The New York Observer, Coulter said “I’m getting a little fed up with hearing about, oh, civilian casualties. I think we ought to nuke North Korea right now just to give the rest of the world a warning.”
This statement condoning violence against innocence people is coming from the very mouth that has spoken against abortion and Islamic extremism. I was shocked to hear her say this because Coulter’s rantings are so contradictory and hypocritical, it reaches the level of absurdity.
The raving and offensive rantings of Coulter are just proof that some people will say, or do anything, to be in the spotlight. In her assertions, Coulter has repeatedly contradicted herself. She calls democrats name-callers, yet she calls homosexual faggots, and Muslims ragheads. She is against abortion, yet she calls for the murder of innocent civilians. Someone needs to teach Coulter a new word, hypocrisy, and while you’re doing that, dust off the poor girl’s Bible.
