Obama, Please Don’t Betray Israel

Conservative Leaders Show Support to Israel

As Obama Dumps on Israel, 49 representatives sign their names to a published letter as a show of support to PM Netanyahu and Israel. This is in reaction by conservatives to Obama’s speech on Thursday, May 18, 2011, that have been less that positive.

Those signing the letter included leaders, such as, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, Dr. James Dobson, syndicated columnist Don Feder, Liberty Counsel founder, Mat Staver, Janet Porter of Faith2Action, Bill McCartney of Promise Keepers, Jimmy Draper of LifeWay Christian Resources (Southern Baptist Convention), as well as Jim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association.

Obama referred to Israel’s legitimate West Bank settlements as an “occupation” and repeatedly called for a return to the 1967 borders. Critics point out that is essentially a call for a divided Jerusalem. Additionally, the president continued to press Israel to negotiate with Palestinian Authority and the “unity government” the PA has formed with Hamas.
The US has always stood with Israel as an ally. Israel has always been America’s greatest ally in the Middle East. Lately, however, the US has begun to openly reprimand Israel for their unwillingness to give up land, and return to the pre 1967 borders. Israel is feeling quite alone , presently.

Netanyahu claims the pre 1967 lines are “Indefensible.” He had expected that the meeting on Friday would re-affirm the 2004 letter from George W. Bush that did not call for the pre 1967 lines. He plans to make it clear that Israel will need to remain in Jordan.

Christian conservatives take the treatment of Israel quite seriously. God gave Abraham some clear promises, as illustrated below:

“Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” Genesis 12:1-3 (KJV)

“And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.” Genesis 17:8 (KJV)

Christians are urged to show their support for Israel, “by speaking up and out,” Wildmon stated.
