Collector Edition C3 Corvette
The best car I ever owned, and my favorite car was my 1982 Chevrolet Corvette, Collector Edition. I named her Flo from the Disney Pixar movie, “Cars” (Disney Pixar Cars, 1995). There was a line in the movie where the car Flo was not repainted, because something to the effect you cannot improve on perfection. That is just me paraphrasing; I do not remember the exact quote. But that was enough for me to name my Vette, “Flo. As she was already perfect, and she did seem to flow down the highway.
My brother who had some nice cars of his own, BMW and a Mustang to name a couple, told me when I bought the Vette, “The two happiest days of your life will be the day you buy the Vette, and the day you sell the Vette. Truer words were never spoken.
I bought the car about 4 hours from my house on the west side of Dallas Texas. Me and my son drove over there to pick up the car. I remember my son calling me on the cell phone as it was his turn to drive the Vette home, and reminding me he had a date that same night. I just laughed, and replied, no, lol. Before he had a chance to ask to borrow the Vette on his date night, I felt a No, was in order.
I would take Flo to car shows, Church, Sonic Drive-Ins, and even the local Corvette Club. Everywhere I went, people seemed to love the Corvette. My favorite part was to remove the t-tops and fell the air flowing throughout the car. Ok, seeing the gauges shaking, and those big fenders slicing through the air, was a rush too, lol.
I would take my, Down Syndrome daughter, riding with me as much as I could. She was so funny; as she would wave to everybody we passed. Most of them would wave back. It was like she was in her own parade, lol. I probably miss that the most about Flo.
But, as with most cars there came a time to sell it. I did not want to sell it, so I did not advertise it much at all. Then one day I had the bright idea to advertise it on an internet buy / sell auction type site. That proved to be my biggest mistake.
I had people as far away as Norway trying to buy the Vette from me. A word of caution here: Be careful of internet scams. I now understand completely how people get fooled on internet scams. The person in Norway, said all he needed was my pay-pal account numbers, and he would have an approved agent to come and get the car. An approved agent? To get the car? Or steal the car?
Either way, I was very leery of selling Flo in such a manner. The only way I would sell her was to a person who could meet me in a local bank, to transfer the title and the money. Cash money. I am sorta thinking, there never was a man in Norway. Lol.
The person who finally bought her, reminded me of, well me. He was so excited, and he loved the car and the beautiful unforgettable body lines of a C3 Corvette. I hated to sell Flo, but I am glad she has a good home. I hope to go to a car show this weekend, and see her on display where she belongs.
