Christian began the night as a face on Friday night Smackdown. Smackdown began with a great match between Mark Henry and Christian. It was a great match, but Christian earned the victory. The commentators suggested that defeating Mark Henry would put Christian back in the World Title picture and Christian was really happy after defeating Mark Henry. After his victory, Christian grabbed a microphone and began to explain why he felt that he should be facing Orton for the Title instead of Sheamus.
Sheamus won the triple threat match last week and earned the opportunity to face Orton for the Title on Smackdown. Christian even showed footage from last week’s No.1 contender’s match and proved that he should have won instead of Sheamus. Smackdown GM Teddy Long came out and agreed with Christian, but told Christian he couldn’t change anything. Christian took a page out of Long’s book and asked the crowd if they would like to see Christian face Orton instead of Sheamus for the World Title. Of Course, the crowd agreed with Christian and Teddy Long made a quick decision. He decided to make Christian the special guest referee so that certain circumstances would not occur.
The World Title match served as the main event on Smackdown last night. Before the match, Sheamus was being interviewed by Matt Stryker and he saw Christian heading to the ring with his referee shirt. Sheamus tried to suck up to Christian by telling him that he believed that Christian should have been facing Orton for the World Title, but Christian wasn’t buying it. Christian basically told Sheamus that he hopes his effort in the title match will be better than his attempt to suck up. Christian also told Sheamus that he will call the match right down the middle.
The title match between Sheamus and Orton was physical for the most part, and Sheamus dominated the most of the match. Christian called the match down the middle until the very end of the match. Sheamus accidentally hit Christian and it caused one of Chrsitian’s arms to get hurt. Sheamus landed his finisher on Orton and had him beat. Christian was about to make the three count, but stood up and complained about his right arm getting hurt. Sheamus was so close to becoming the champion, but Christian failed to make the three count. Sheamus approached Christian and pushed him in the corner, Sheamus was angry with Christian. Suddenly, Christian used that same right arm to punch Sheamus in the face. Then Orton landed the “RKO” on Sheamus to retain the World Title.
Christian held up Orton’s arm in victory and went to bring him his Title like refs are supposed to do. Suddenly, Christian legitimately hit Randy Orton in the head with the World Title. Christian said to the unconscious Orton that he knows that he can beat him in a match. Then Christian began to celebrate with the World Title in the ring and left the ring with the title. He held up the World Title on the entrance ramp one more time before Smackdown went off the air. Christian left Smackdown with the World Title.
From what I saw, Christian’s arm wasn’t really hurt; he just wanted Orton to remain the World Champion. Christian has lost to Randy Orton twice and he is convinced that he can beat Orton for the title. At this point, Christian seems that he is willing to do anything to defeat Orton for the title. And it also shows that Christian has begun to make this entire situation an obsession. I predicted a few weeks back in a previous article that Christian would become a heel, it was too obvious.
