Cholesterol Busting Foods

There are certain foods that can really help you lower your cholesterol. These foods should be part of every diet. They work in different ways, but all of them, when used correctly, will make those LDL numbers tumble.

Almonds

As we said previously in this e-book, nuts are a healthy food that should be a part of all diets. Almonds are especially good at lowering cholesterol. There is evidence that even the ancient Greeks knew or suspected that almonds were good for health.

Almonds are high in monounsaturated fat, which is very effective in lowering LDL. You should feel free to snack on almonds. They will fill you up too, just watch the calories you are consuming by eating them.

Apples

There is definitely some truth to the old saying “An apple a day, keeps the doctor away”. Apples should be a top choice when adding fruit to a diet. They are low in calories, have very little to no fat and can help tame a sweet tooth. They help lower your cholesterol by being high in fiber, as we discussed above.

Beans

Most people know that beans are high in fiber, which will help lower cholesterol, but beans have an extra kick with the addition of Omega-3 fats! It is like a one-two punch against cholesterol.

Beans are high in protein and low in fat. They are a great substitute for red meat you are trying to eliminate in your diet. The great thing about beans is there are multiple kinds and multiple ways to prepare them. A quick search online will bring you tons of delicious and nutritious recipes that will make the LDL cholesterol fall fast!

Chocolate

Yes. You are reading this right. Chocolate can help lower your cholesterol. There is one thing to keep in mind though, chocolate does contain fat and you should only be eating dark chocolate, not the sweet, creamy milk chocolate as the fat content in milk chocolate is higher. Feel free to indulge in chocolate, just again, watch the fat and calories.

Popcorn

Popcorn is a great and healthy snack and you guessed it, can help lower your cholesterol. Popcorn is full of fiber which you know is great for your diet and can also help you feel full if you are trying to lose some weight as well. Just don’t put butter or pop it in oil as that totally defeats the purpose of eating popcorn!

Fish

Fish is an excellent source of Omega 3 and also a cholesterol beating food! It has low fat, low calories and almost all fish is good for you.

The best fish to eat, those highest in Omega 3 include albacore tuna, rainbow trout, salmon and mackerel. Remember though, these fish should be cooked in a healthy way. Going to a fish fry does not count!
