The new Chicago Baptist Church of University Village connects you to a powerful relationship with God and one another.
On March 19, 2011, after much prayer and direction from the Lord, Pastor Noel Orellano, and his wife Courtney, opened the doors of Chicago Baptist Church.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be serving the people of the great city of Chicago” said Pastor Noel. “I am very proud to say, I am a native Chicagoan. I was born, and raised here. I love this city!”
When asked about their Mission Statement, Pastor Noel responded that it’s to “Connect and Re-connect. We want to connect people who do not know Jesus Christ to Him. Secondly, re-connect those who maybe are trying to find their way back to God. We believe that Jesus can put a broken marriage back together, heal relationships, and can give our lives true meaning.”
The congregation of Chicago Baptist Church are “hard-working, down-to-earth, loving people who want to live life to the fullest.” Their church services are open to anyone who wants to feel loved and appreciated.
Two of the programs the church offers for families are called CityKidz and Youth Alive. One is where young children can enjoy a safe, fun and high-energy environment of inspirational learning, and another is for teens, where they learn Biblical principles, which can be applied to every day life. For the adults, there are small groups that meet to discuss and share Scripture, prayer requests and fellowship.
When I asked Pastor Noel about what he would say to someone who would like to know Jesus Christ, or who has walked away from their faith, he offered these hopeful words: “I would simply say Jesus is awesome! There is nothing we can do for Him not to love us.” He went on to say that “Jesus is a forgiving God. Let’s just be real. We all struggle with different issues. The awesome thing about Christ is that He forgives!”
Speaking from personal experience, I have known these beautiful truths in my own life. I, too, have fallen short, made mistakes and lost my way. But God was there to take me back with His unconditional love and a new beginning.
Another way I better understood God’s loving grace is through others. Until I found a church home, I never truly grasped how God works through each one of us, using our unique spiritual gifts, time and talent, to build a healthy, inspirational church.
Growing up, I was used to a more generic church environment, where I just sat down, sang a couple songs, listened to Bible quotes and left, never getting to know those around me. Overall, it gave me a solid foundation of faith, but was not emotionally and spiritually satisfying. I needed a more personal, intimate relationship with God and a deeper bond with people.
Through a strong church family, you can find love, friendship, strength, patience, compassion and understanding. When your life is falling apart, you have a whole team of brothers and sisters in Christ, all there to help you, with prayers, kindness and words of support. A church is there for you, whether your world is wonderful, or turned upside down.
Chicago Baptist Church has a lot to offer. Their church services are a special time of music, singing, and sharing God’s Word, lead by a warm, charismatic leader in Pastor Noel, who is passionate about God, family and Chicago.
Pastor Noel has a message for those who may be seeking God, or an inspiring, spiritual home: “Our church is striving to be a help to our great city and community. If we can be of a help to you, please let us know.”
The church services take place Saturday evenings at 5:00 p.m. inside the Provision Theater, 1001 West Roosevelt Road, Chicago. You can call 312-834-9543, or visit them online by going to: www.cbcuv.com
