When most of us think of Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block, we think one of two things. One: Oh how I miss the music from my childhood. Or, two: Why did those girls fall in love with those stupid boys dressed in matching outfits? Well, I fall under the first category. Unfortunately, New Kids on the Block was a few years before my time, so I am the diehard Backstreet Boy fan. I was never able to go to a concert as a child to see them when they were popular because my parents were smart and wouldn’t pay $150 a seat for a 10 year old. So I had to wait to see them in concert until 2008 when they had a nostalgia tour promoting their comeback and Howie and Brian’s solo albums. To this date, that is my favorite concert I have attended and hope to go see them live again.
When I heard BSB and NKOTB were collaborating, I was, of course, ecstatic. I have never owned any NKOTB albums, but since I just pre-ordered the new collaborative album, I soon will. Either way, these are two of the biggest boy bands in American history and seeing them come together 10 to 15 years after their peak of their popularity excites me. A lot of the music in this new decade is making me lose interest in pop, so I am glad groups from my childhood are still around.
This album features the top 5 most popular songs, voted by their fans, of each group. This will include songs such as “Step by Step” and “Hangin’ Tough” by NKOTB and “I Want it That Way” and “As Long As You Love Me” by BSB. There are going to be two versions of the album available for download, one having solely 13 tracks, and the other one having the 13 tracks and 10 videos. Since there are 5 tracks from each group individually, this leaves 3 spots open for questioning. These spots go to collaborative songs. The first single was released on April 5th titled “Don’t Turn Out the Lights”. The full album will be released on Monday May 23rd.
To make things even more exciting, they are touring this summer and as a collaborative group called NKOTBSB. The tour starts the 25th and will last until the beginning of September. The tour has big names opening for them as well. For parts of the tour, Jordin Sparks will be their opener and Glee’s Matt Morrison will be another. For those fans that are also members of the BSB site, you can enter a drawing to win VIP passes backstage to meet the groups. If you would like to buy the VIP packages, they vary in prices starting at around $200 for meet and greets and signed photos.
For any diehard BSB or NKOTB fan, this tour and album cannot be missed. Pre-order your album on Amazon.com or iTunes today. This is definitely an album for a fan’s collection.
