Besides watching movies and buying delicious ice cream, the summer is also great for buying albums and listening to music. Before I state the top 10 albums coming out this summer, it is important to note that I enjoy mostly listening to classic rock, punk rock, and alternative rock. With this being said, I have listed the top 10 albums of the 2011 summer below.
Alpocalypse by “Weird Al” Yankovic
For the occasional laugh, I will consider buying the “Alpocalypse” album by “Weird Al” Yankovic. The album will be released on June 21, 2011.
“Born This Way” by Lady Gaga
As a radio disc jockey, I have grown accustomed to listening to all different types of music, genres, and singers. As a result, I know that a popular album this summer will be “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga. When I return to college next fall, I plan on playing a song or two from the album for my female radio fans. “Born this Way” was released on May 23rd, 2011, which is close enough to be considered a summertime album. What is your favorite Lady Gaga song? Feel free to leave a comment below.
“Fly From Here” by Yes
In my opinion, Yes is one of the most underrated progressive rock bands of all-time. With classic singles like “Roundabout” and “Owner of a Lonely Heart”, Yes will release another album titled “Fly From Here” on July 12th.
“If Not Now, When” by Incubus
Although I am not a big fan of Incubus, Incubus is a great alternative rock band known for the songs “Drive”, “Anna Molly”, and “Love Hurts”. “If Not Now, When” will probably be one of the albums that I will buy this summer as I want to start listening to more songs from Incubus. The release date for “If Not Now, When” is expected to be July 12th.
“The Truth Is — ” by Theory of a Deadman
A couple weeks ago, I discussed alternative rock with a good buddy of mine, and he suggested that I consider listening to more songs by Theory of a Deadman. This summer, the Canadian rock band will release an album titled “The Truth Is — “. The album will be released on July 12.
“Time of My Life” by 3 Doors Down
3 Doors Down is one of my favorite hard rock bands. I will definitely consider buying this album. You can expect a release date of July 19th for “Time of My Life”.
Besides albums that are going to be released this summer, four great albums have a summertime theme or are great for listening on a sandy beach.
“Hums of the Lovin’ Spoonful” by The Lovin’ Spoonful
One of the most famous summer songs was written by The Lovin’ Spoonful for their album Hums of the Lovin’ Spoonful. The song is “Summer in the City”. “Summer in the City” is known for its up-beat tempo, vivid summer imagery, and for its occasional car honks.
“Kokomo” (Single) by The Beach Boys
One of my favorite songs of all-time is The Beach Boy’s “Kokomo”. “Kokomo” is a song about a fictitious Caribbean island, and it is so warm and up-beat, that I wish Kokomo was an actual island. “Kokomo” is also from the albums “Cocktail” and “Still Cruisin'”.
“One More Time: The Chess Years” by Billy Stewart
Another underrated singer is the R&B singer Billy Stewart. Only 32 years-old when he died in 1970, Billy Stewart has one of the best summer songs of all time in the album “One More Time: The Chess Years”. Stewart’s version of “Summertime” is a great song to listen to on hot summer days.
“The Chase” by Garth Brooks
Another great single that has a good summertime theme is “That Summer” by Garth Brooks. Like any song from Garth Brooks, the single “That Summer” is definitely worth listening to by fans of country music and fans of music, in general.
