Forget all the recipes for “best soft chocolate chip cookies” – what if you hate to bake? Try MATT’S. I just happened to come across this brand while in the grocery store. The official name of this product is MATT’S REAL Chocolate Chip Cookies, and they come in a bag and are soft.
Almost always, soft chocolate chip cookies in a bag or package do not impress me; they don’t taste like the real thing, certainly not like soft chocolate chip cookies that come out of an oven. But MATT’S beats out even Mrs. Field’s soft chocolate chip cookies in a package.
The MATT’S package has a big photo of a chocolate chip cookie, and boy does it look good; it has a lot of succulent looking chips. Of course, imagery can be deceiving, to get the consumer to purchase the product. And it worked; I bought the bag.
But upon opening the bag and seeing the cookies lined up in their horizontal stack in two rows inside a plastic container, I could immediately see that the image on the bag was not doctored up to appear better than the actual product. What you see is indeed what you get!
The perfect looking chocolate chip cookie on the bag is a very accurate depiction of what you will find inside the bag.
But what about taste? First I sniffed one, and right off the bat, I knew I had a winner. MATT’S soft cookies are thick and loaded with succulent chocolate chips, and this product tastes absolutely delicious.
Do they taste better than “baked from scratch” versions fresh from the oven or even after being refrigerated? Of course not. No cookie in a bag can top a great homemade recipe.
But if you want the convenience of chocolate chip cookies in a bag, and soft ones rather than crispy ones, then MATT’S is the best that I have eaten so far, and I have tried close to every brand of soft chocolate chip cookies from a bag.
But it gets better: Microwave these sinful confections from MATT’S, and you will want to snarf down the entire bag. In fact, at room temperature, you’ll want to snarf down the entire bag. MATT’S product microwaves well, but monitor this closely because if such a product is microwaved for just a little bit too long, it will be ruined. The bag says to microwave for 10-15 seconds. But microwave “strengths” vary, so stop at 10 seconds first, then take it from there.
Ingredients for this MATT’S product: unbleached wheat flour, real chocolate chips (yes, that is the truth; aren’t you sick of all the fake ones in so many cookie brands?), baking oil (palm, soybean, canola), brown sugar, fresh eggs, sugar, baking soda, salt, vanilla.
