Farmer’s markets are the perfect place to find bargains and support local vendors. These four markets, located in Schuylkill and Berks area of Pennsylvania, offer plenty of fresh produce, custom crafts, and homemade foods at affordable prices. All four markets offer free parking and admission.
Hometown Farmer’s Market – Tamaqua
The Hometown Farmer’s Market runs every Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. This is an indoor/outdoor market packed with food, crafts, produce, clothing, and much more. During peak season, there are over 300 vendors selling a vast array of items.
Some of my favorite spots at this market include the fresh produce from Dunn’s Produce Stand, fresh baked goods from Plain & Fancy, and fresh turkey products from Koch’s turkey farm.

Fairgrounds Farmer’s Market – Reading
The Farigrounds Famer’s Market is located next to the Fairgrounds Square Mall in Reading. This Market is open weekly on Thursdays and Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. This market is completely indoors with many permanent vendors.
Must visit stands at this market include four organic stands with a variety of produce, dry goods, cheeses, and desserts. Be sure to stop the Clover Hill Winery stand to sample their award-winning wines. My favorite wines are Turtle Rock Red (dry) and Catawba (sweet).

Leesport Farmer’s Market – Leesport
The Leesport Farmer’s Market holds a weekly market on Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Produce, food, crafts, bake goods, and clothing are among the items for sale at this market. There is also an outdoor flea market and a livestock auction beginning at 1:00 p.m. In addition to the weekly market, 5 seasonal craft fairs are held throughout the year. Sunday flea markets are held on the first and third Sundays of each month seasonally.
I suggest visiting this farmer’s market during the summer months, when local farmers have plenty of fresh produce for sale at great prices. Be sure to go hungry, because the local food vendors offer plenty of delicious homemade foods. Try the fresh pizza stand at the end of the indoor section; it’s amazing!

Zerns Farmer’s Market – Gilbertsville, PA
Zerns Farmer’s Market is open weekly on Fridays from 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Among the the crafts and produce, there’s an eclectic mix of vendors including a bookstore, camera shop, and a barbershop. Zern’s has a weekly car auction on Fridays starting at 6:00 p.m. and an Antique & Collectible Bid Board Auction .
Unlike most markets, Zern’s is open late which I find very convenient. Because over 150 vendor spots are indoors, this market is excellent during the cold winter months. Arrive hungry because the Pennsylvania Dutch treats are too tempting to pass up. If you enjoy country-style decor, there are three vendors with a large selection of unique decorations.
