A wide variety of events will be hosted in Montgomery, Alabama and surrounding areas during the summer of 2011. Whether you are looking for weekend activities for the family or fun events during the evening hours, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
All summer long the Biscuits Baseball team will be playing at Riverwalk Stadium. Tickets range from $8 to $12 per person with children under 2 receiving free admission. The Harriott II riverboat will also cruise all summer long down the Alabama River. Cruises include the weekly Blues Cruise, Dinner Cruise, and After Hours Cruise. Other cruises include a Saturday Getaway Cruise on June 4th, Parrott Heads Cruise on June 11th, Father’s Day Dinner Cruise on June 19th, and various cruises for 4th of July weekend. The 26th Annual Coosa River Whitewaters Festival in Wetumpka, Alabama runs from Friday June 3rd to Sunday June 5th. The $30 registration fee enters participants in all competitions and provides camping, a festival t-shirt, live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights, Saturday night dinner, free shuttle services, and more. The “Bring Your Own Chair” Concert Series is coming to Riverwalk Amphitheater on June 4th and will benefit Women of Hope. The band AKA Wishbone will headline the concert with two possible guest bands to open the show. The concert begins at 6:30pm. Tickets are $20 at the door with free admission for kids 12 and under and include free beer, soft drinks, and wine. Food Concessions will be available.
Frazer United Methodist Church will host comedian Tim Hawkins on Sunday, June 12th. Hawkins provides clean entertainment for the whole family. The concert begins at 6:00pm on the church grounds located at 6000 Atlanta Highway in Montgomery. Tickets can be purchased for $20 at the door or $15 in advance by calling (334) 272-8622.
The Montgomery Performing Arts Centre will host comedian Ron White on Thursday, June 16th at 7:30pm. Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com. Ron White is famous for being a part of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour.
4th of July weekend begins Montgomery’s 3 day summer “Staycation”. On Saturday, July 2nd , the Riverwalk Amphitheater will welcome rock band Sister Hazel for an evening of musical entertainment by the river. The amphitheater has only lawn seating so bring a blanket or chairs. Concessions will be available; no outside food or drinks are allowed. The gates open at 7:00pm. Tickets are available online for $10 at www.eTix.com or are $15 at the door.
On Sunday, July 3rd from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, the Captial City Downtown Streetfest will close off Coosa and Tallapoosa streets in downtown Montgomery. Admission is free, but there may be fees for children’s activities. The fest will include family friendly entertainment, inflatables for children, and music by Fontaine Entertainment.
Montgomery’s 4th of July Riverfront Celebration will kick off at 6:00pm with a variety of events to make the holiday special for everyone. Enjoy musical entertainment by the well-known river region band Dr. Feelgood at Riverwalk Amphitheater. Admission is free. If sports is more your style, the Biscuits Baseball team will be taking on the Tennessee Smokies starting at 6:05pm in Riverwalk Stadium at 200 Coosa Street. Tickets can be purchased online at www.BiscuitsBaseball.com with prices starting at $8 per person. The Harriott II riverboat will also be cruising twice during the night. The evening cruise departs at 5:30pm with tickets priced at $15 for adults and $10 for children. The Fireworks cruise departs at 8:45pm with tickets priced at $19 for adults and $14 for children. Concessions are available for both cruises and tickets may be purchased at eTix.com. Finally, the MAX Fireworks Spectacular will light up the sky over Montgomery at the conclusion of the baseball game. Watch it from the stadium, amphitheater, or Harriott II riverboat.
If you are looking for fun on the lake for July 4th, Lake Martin will present its 11th Annual 4th of July concert and fireworks show. The concert starts at 6:00pm at Lake Martin Amphitheater and fireworks will begin at 9:00pm. Fireworks can also be viewed from boats or in the open fields off Highway 63. Starting on Monday, July 11th, Montgomery’s Riverwalk Amphitheater will feature “Movie Mondays”. Each Monday in July, the amphitheater will host various movies at sundown. Grab a blanket or chair and enjoy a movie in the open air.
