I travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at least six times a year and, every time, I stay in an inexpensive hotel in the Bukit Bintang area of the city. Bukit Bintang is the place to stay in Kuala Lumpur, as it’s home to six huge shopping malls, restaurants, cafes, bars and a thriving nightlife. Surprisingly, it also has a number of cheap hotels offering some of the city’s best hotel deals.
Hotel Capitol – The first hotel I ever stayed at in Kuala Lumpur, I’ve been back to the Hotel Capitol many times. It’s a wonderful hotel located only a couple of minutes walk from the city’s monorail train system, as well as next to several enormous malls and with shops and restaurants and the city’s main shopping area right outside the front door.
A couple of years ago, I stopped staying at Hotel Capitol, not because I didn’t like the hotel but because the price went up quite rapidly. In recent months though, the hotel has again begun offering some of the best hotel deals in Bukit Bintang, particularly for the quality of accommodation.
At Hotel Capitol rooms are large with en suite marble bath, TV with cable, tea and coffee making trays, an iron and ironing board, an in-room safe and a hair dryer. The rooms on the higher floors also have Wi-Fi internet that’s included in the room rate.
Breakfast is included in the room rate and features a large buffet with choices of Malay and western food. The hotel also has a restaurant and bar on the corner of the hotel overlooking the main street. It’s a lovely place to sit and watch the crowds walk by as well as enjoy the quite excellent food.
The Hotel Capitol is currently offering superior rooms for only 180 ringgit (around $58), which for the location and the lovely rooms, you cannot beat the price.
The Hotel Capitol is located at Jalan Bulan, Bukit Bintang, Malaysia – just around the corner from Jalan Bukit Bintang.
Cube Boutique Hotel – Not only one of the best deals in the Bukit Bintang area, I think Cube Boutique Hotel offers one of the best deals in Kuala Lumpur, which is why I’ve now stayed there four times.
Located just around the corner from the huge Berjaya Times Square Mall and the monorail train station, Cube Boutique Hotel is a budget hotel that features teeny tiny rooms that look like nothing more than a box with a tiny attached bathroom.
As bad as that sounds, to me, they’re wonderful as every room is spotlessly clean, has a flat screen TV with lots of cable channels and free Wi-Fi internet. Most rooms don’t have a window but that adds to the quietness of the place – you get a great night’s sleep here.
The staff too is lovely here and although they don’t have a cafe or restaurant, there are literally thousands of them right around the corner, so you won’t be worried about choice.
Room rates begin at 90 ringgit a night (currently $28) and it’s well worth it.
Be careful when you book at the Cube Hotel though. There’s another hotel in the area pretending to be the Cube (it’s actually the Orange Hotel), but this one has low-quality, dirty rooms and gets terrible reviews. Make sure you book either from the Cube Hotel’s website or through a reputable company like Booking.com.
Cube Hotel is at 180 Jalan Pudu, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.
My Hotel @ Bukit Bintang – A new budget hotel, My Hotel @ Bukit Bintang is part of a chain of hotels that concentrates on offering comfortable, clean low-cost accommodation in good locations.
At their location at Bukit Bintang, My Hotel rooms feature en suite bath, tea and coffee making tray, hairdryer on request, bottled water, an in-room safe, freeWi-Fi internet and flat screen TV with cable. Rooms are spotlessly clean and as they’re brand new, expect everything to be pretty much perfect.

The hotel is currently offering special room rates of only 88 ringgit ($27.75) for a single room, but even at their regular rate of 150 ringgit ($48) a night, they’re still a great deal.
