Austin, Texas is one of the rare cities in the US that can proudly boast its abundance of independent craft breweries, many of which offer free tours and tastings.
The (512) Brewery is a long-time Austin favorite whose beers are readily available at several bars in the Austin area (although not available for retail purchase in liquor and grocery stores.) This brewery is located near South Congress and US71, and is actually split between several buildings, so all events are held outside in their common area. The Texas summer sun can be brutal and the event lines can be long, but their open houses are completely worth it. Be prepared with cold water and sunscreen. Sign up for the (512) newsletter here.
Jester King Craft Brewery
Jester King is one of the new kids on the block in the Austin brewery scene. With already wildly popular beers, this remote brewery is definitely worth the drive. Rumor has it that their grand opening was so huge, the TABC had to shut down the event! To date, this brewery does not offer regularly scheduled tours, so be sure to visit their website and sign up for the newsletter to learn about future events.
