Friday, November 5th 2010 a beautiful concrete skate park opened in Bemidji, Minnesota. This was great news because it is the only skate park in the Bemidji area. On top of that, it is Minnesota’s first public skate park. Fundraising events spread throughout Bemidji including music events volunteered by bands such as Our Own End, The Gavels, Venom Lord, DJ Dave, and many more. There were also many wonderful people and organizations that donated their time, effort, and money to make this all possible.
Bemidji Skate and Bike Association has been dedicated to make this happen for years. They listened to the many skateboarders frustrations of not having any legal place to go in the city of Bemidji, Minnesota to skate. Once approved by the City of Bemidji, many organizations started to donate time and money to start the project such as: No Comply, George W. Neilson Foundation, First National Bank of Bemidji, Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, California Skate Parks, Tony Hawk Foundation, Spohn Ranch, Site Design, Burton Snowboards, local Home Depot, Midcontinent Communications, Nike and many more.
It is truly amazing in all peoples efforts and the dedication of many organizations that made this Bemidji Skate Park happen. It is a famously unique story for the city of Bemidji, Minnesota to share and be proud of for many years to come.
Location and Details
The concrete Bemidji Skate Park is located on 23rd Street North West in Bemidji, Minnesota. Hours are from 8am to 10pm. There are no fees for using this public skate park. Everyone is welcome to use it any fashion they choose such as skateboarding, BMX biking, and more.
It is surrounded by gorgeous trees, grass, shrubberies, to have an eye appeal of comfort. Lots of parking is available that is shared with a new playground, Bemidji Curling Club, Disc Golf field, and a large field for other sporting needs.
It must be mentioned that the Skate Park is not complete at this time. It has to be worked around our changing seasons, as winter makes it difficult to get anything done for an outside park. We are still short funds to complete the skate park, but hopefully in time it will all come together to be finished.
