On a scale of 1 to 10, and 10 being the most heartbreak, I’d give last night a solid 15. As a mother, I just wanted to scoop Ashley up and make everything all better for her. She went through some awful stuff on last night’s episode. It was stuff that each and every woman watching could relate to on some level. That’s what made it so hard to watch. And it wasn’t just because of Bentley. It was the stupid roast in a comedy club. Here’s what happened…
Let’s start at the beginning though. Ben C. got a one-on-one date with Ashley. And for the record, Ben C. was great. He and Ashley practiced a cool hip hop dance together. Then they went to an outdoor fair and were sitting on a large patch of grass in the middle of the fair when Ashley asked Ben if he would dance with her. Waves of embarrassment went over him, since a lot of people were staring at them, but if Ashley wanted to dance, then Ben was going to dance. Shortly after they started, a whole bunch of people joined them and they all did the same dance. It dawned on Ben then that this was one of those flash mobs. Very cool and fun to watch.
That evening was the romantic dinner date, and in my opinion, Ben C. talked a bit too fast and was going on and on about some bubble of love they could be in. I wasn’t quite sure what he was talking about and by the look on Ashley’s face, I think she was a bit bewildered as well. But she gave him the rose anyway, which I thought was fair. So Ben C. is still in the running.
By the way, our masked man, Jeff, finally took off his mask last night. (yawn)
Then the disastrous comedy club roast happened on a group date. To be honest, I was rather shocked at some of the things that a few of the guys actually said. A couple of them made fun of the fact that Ashley didn’t have big boobs. Seriously. And to make it worse, Ashley was wearing a very low cut blouse, but she really shouldn’t have because all you really saw were ribs. So the guys were right that she was small, but she shouldn’t have had to sit there and listen to them make fun of her body. She’s a cute girl with a cute figure.
But William was the one that did the most damage to Ashley’s ego. He actually said that when he was getting out of the limo, he was expecting to see either Emily or Chantal from last season. And he was saying it as if he was disappointed it was Ashley standing there. Ashley wasn’t laughing, and William instantly knew that he made a huge mistake. Ashley then went behind the stage and was crying. And Bentley went to her and comforted her, making her fall for him even more.
Eventually, William got a chance to talk to Ashley, but instead of apologizing and giving her some comfort, he just talked about himself and how horrible he felt and that he was so upset that he was thinking of leaving the show. Ashley half-heartedly told him not to leave, but I don’t think she meant it at the time.
And now Bentley. Oh my God. He is the devil himself, that one. We see and hear what he’s saying in front of the cameras, and we’re seeing and hearing how he charms and manipulates Ashley. Bentley told everyone that he was leaving because he missed his daughter, and all the guys bought it, as well as Ashley. One of the things that Bentley did that was truly unforgivable was that when Ashley was balling her eyes out, and Bentley was giving her bear hugs and kissing her cheek a million times, he was also kissing her neck and he even admitted that he knew it was turning her on. It was a game to him. And all we could do was to watch while a master manipulator played her like a fiddle. It was awful to watch, it really was.
Ashley was so deeply hurt by the previous comedy roast, that this Bentley thing on top of that was too much for her to bear. That’s when she crawled under the covers and just sobbed like a three year old. I don’t blame her. Any woman would have done the same thing. Unfortunately, she fell hard for Bentley’s charms, and none of the other guys could measure up to him. She wasn’t even sure if she would be able to continue on with the show. I read an interview with Chris Harrison where he said they were worried about that too. Ashley was that distraught. But apparently she pulled herself together and carried on.
She also had a one-on-one date with JP, who is a cutie by the way. They just stayed home in sweat pants and Ashley even had on glasses. I think JP really made her feel better about everything, at least a little bit. You don’t get over a heartbreak that easily. But Ashley was trying. JP was a doll and Ashley even thought he may have kissed better than Bentley. I’m not sure she believed that when she said it, but the girl is trying. Of course, JP got the rose on that date.
In the meantime, William did stick around, but he was so sure he was going to be sent home. Even though he was a complete idiot for saying the things he did at the roast, I actually felt a little sorry for him. I think William really likes Ashley, but he got caught up in his little fantasy of being a famous comedian. Not a good move on his part, but I believe he’s a good guy. And I do think he likes Ashley.
At the rose ceremony, Ashley let two guys go. The masked man, which was no surprise, and she kept us all on edge by giving the last rose to William, who looked enormously relieved to have been given a second chance. The second guy to be let go was Chris. We hadn’t seen much of him anyway.
Ashley talked to the guys in the end, and apparently they’re heading to Thailand. I wish Chris Harrison and the producers would have shown Ashley some of the footage they had of Bentley and how he was so two-faced and manipulative of her. As much as that would have hurt her, I think it would have helped her get over him quicker. Here she was thinking the guy was a great father, but really he was a total jerk. I guess now that the episodes are airing, Ashley is seeing what happened. I really hope she’s sitting somewhere out there with the guy she finally chooses and is happily in love. I really hope that.
And what was up with that strange scene at the very end of the show with Jeff, the masked guy, sitting on the toilet with his pants around his ankles and reading the newspaper ads for cars out loud, while Bentley was grooming his hair in the mirror right next to him. Weird much????
