Every time I hear the words “mineral makeup” I always have flashbacks of standing at the Bare Minerals counter with my friend Nita (who is from India and has the most lovely deep shade of skin that rerminds me of figs) while the counter girl fumbled around before handing her what they call their “tan” & “warm tan” collection and saying to her “Here these colors are usually for Asian & Hispanic people but you could probably get close to your color with them”. My ever so charming friend Nita promptly replied “I am Asian, just not like, ‘Jackie Chan’ Asian” Ha! And now you know why I love her.
Being a gal of mixed races myself, I can empathize with how difficult it is to find foundation shades that truly match my skin tone. If you have a vivid color pallet imagination my complexion falls somewhere between: Asian actress Ziyi Zhang and singer/songwriter Alicia Keys although only in my wildest dreams am i as breathtaking! When purchasing medium toned makeup it always looks like the tan with yellow undertones that I am searching for, but out of the bottle it is far too light. Beige foundations seem darker but unfortunately most have a pinkish undertone and don’t blend well with my skin at all. Sometimes I have to laugh to myself because I feel like Bob Ross in the mornings when I am pouring bottles of makeup together trying to make a perfect match. Happy little clouds…
A few months later, I was turned on to a little company called b.l.a.c.(basic luxuries for all colors) minerals
So… it has taken me a long time to come around to the mineral makeup hype but b.l.a.c.minerals seemed to have a more diverse color pallet for people who are more than just “ivory, light, medium, tan or dark”. Upon my friend’s urging, I finally ordered a sample kit. The samples arrived yesterday afternoon and I tore open the package like a kid on Christmas day because i was so hoping this was going to be the one but sadly for me it failed.
The coverage was nice and it really did match and blend very well, but I did not like the way it felt on my skin. I’m not sure if maybe the samples were old or what, but upon application the minerals felt very course and scratchy. I also have very sensitive skin and after only about 30 minutes of wear my face broke out in an itchy rash and I immediately had to wash it off..
I don’t know, I guess I’m going to have to go half and half with this one. I simply cannot wear it but my friends thinks it’s fab.
Sorry b.l.a.c. minerals , you get the pout :(
