Austrian Wine, Wolfgang Puck and Chef Jose Andres recently held an evening of culinary and wine sampling at the ultra-chic SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills benefiting St. Vincent Meals on Wheels.
Fittingly titled, AUSTRIA UNCORKED, the evening heralded the best of the best Austrian Wine imports and paired delicious specialty cuisine and desserts designed to interact with the wine to compliment enhance, and embolden the original flavor.
Recent James Beard winner Chef Jose Andres, head chef of THE BAZAAR located in the SLS Beverly Hills, served delicious traditional Spanish Seafood Panella. Other culinary pleasures included a hearty, perfectly prepared, London Broil that complimented the robust Austrian Reds.
Wolfgang Puck provided Desserts for the evening prepared by Pastry Chef extraordinaire Sherry Yard of SPAGO, his flagship restaurant in Beverly Hills. She performed her signature magic and created an array of specialty desserts toasting the Austrian countryside including an authentic Austrian Apple Strudel served with creme fresh, Bread Pudding, a magnetic Chocolate Souffle sprinkled with confectioner’s sugar and served with warm strawberry drizzle, tempting chocolate button drop cookies dusted with crystal sugar, inviting chocolate rounds lightly sugared and a sugar cookie with a strawberry jam center powdered with confectioners’ sugar. The desserts were intimately delicious!
Norbert Wabnig of The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills provided an Austrian Cheese Buffet, FujiWater supplied drinking alternatives and coffee & tea service courtesy of the SLS.
The overwhelming response to the evening was evident in the very long lines that accompanied each sampling station. The delectable cuisine samplings and pastry mastery paired with the delicious wines made the wait well worth it!
Austrian Wines, which are considered Old World Wines, have nine categories including four varieties of White’s from light and fresh to powerful and full bodied, a racy fruit-toned Rose, two Red’s, a classic compact flavor to a more concentrated; a noble sweet wine and a Sparkling.
AUSTRIA UNCORKED, offered an opportunity to sample more than one hundred Austrian varieties and enjoy the experience of discovering the fullness of the wine flavor. Austrian sweet wines can be playful; a delicate summer Rose offers a nice stand alone experience, while a more robust red wine with higher alcohol content creates the completeness one expects in a wine experience,
A raffle concluded the evening’s festivities and included a Jose Andres Spanish cookbook, a set of four specialty designed Wine Glasses and the Grand Prize of dinner for two, with wine, at Wolfgang Puck’s, newest restaurant, WP24, located on the twenty-fourth floor of the ultra luxurious downtown Los Angeles Ritz-Carlton!
Proceeds from the event benefitted St. Vincent Meals on Wheels. Meals on Wheels is the largest privately funded, home delivery program providing nutritious meals to seniors, the disabled or those who are ill.
It was evening of sumptuous, luscious, culinary offerings, mouth-watering desserts and charming wine benefitting a worthy cause! A sexy, five star, delicious experience!
