CRT computer monitors and televisions are slowly fading away. Based on my observation, LCD/LED monitors and televisions significantly dominate their market. It is rare to find a computer shop with CRT monitors on sale. However, there are still some electronic shops that sell cheap CRT televisions. Due to the numerous brands and models, based on what I have observed, LCD/LED TV and monitor prices are more competitive than ever. As an added bonus, LCD/LED panels consume significantly less power than CRT monitors and TVs.
Choosing which one to buy for your computer or home entertainment system can be really difficult especially when you consider the features depending on what you need and want. You must consider your budget as well. Among the myriad of LCD/LED monitors and TVs, I’ve chosen the AOC Vitta T2242we 21.5-inch LED Monitor TV for my computer. There are several reasons why I chose this monitor TV over the others but let me show you some of its features first.
The AOC T2242we is a monitor TV. This means that it can be used both as a monitor for you PC and a television. Its native resolution is 1920×1080 which is the full high definition standard. It has an LCD panel with an LED backlight panel which results in an ultra high contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1. It only consumes 30 watts of electricity which is very economical compared to other models and brands. It has a remote controller and it can also be placed on a wall.
Let’s talk about the video quality when it comes to PC graphics. Expect to have crisp colors and fine details since the AOC Vitta T2242we has a native resolution of 1080p. The downside to this is that you’ll need a fairly powerful graphics card in order to play games at such a high resolution. If you do have one, you will enjoy exceptional features such as hardware accelerated HD video playback and 3D hardware acceleration for video games.
Another aspect when it comes to video input would be the use of other devices such as DVD players, Blu-ray players and video game consoles. There are several ports where you can connect them to. It has an HDMI port, D-sub (Analog port for your PC), component, RCA composite and one for cable TV/S-video.
It also has two 5-watt speakers for audio output. However, if you are expecting high quality sounds, you will be disappointed since the built-in speakers do not have enough power to provide really good audio. If you are going to place it in a small room, it will most likely be sufficient enough for you but if you want to use it in a large living room, I would recommend that you buy a powerful set of speakers.
Probably the most appealing aspect of this monitor TV is its price. At roughly $210, it is cheap compared to most of the monitors in its class. It is not widely available yet, at least in the Philippines’ market, since the AOC representative told me that the AOC Vitta T2242we is a brand new model.
As good as it may have sounded; there are a few things that you need to be concerned about. First of all, its stand is not stable. It feels like it’s going to fall off from its hinge just by merely poking it. And of course, LCD panels have a certain risk to dead pixels. Be sure to understand your manufacturer’s warranty. Even if you have a single dead pixel, you probably won’t be able to have it replaced just yet. You might have to wait until 5 or more dead pixels show up before you can have a replacement. Sounds utterly ridiculous right? Any defect is still a defect if you’ll ask me.
The main reasons why I chose this monitor for my PC are its price and capabilities. It has the best feature/size to price ratio among the LCD/LED TVs that I have seen on sale. AOC has been in the computer monitor market for quite some time now and they have good quality monitors and this one’s no exception. So far it delivers what it is promising. I can now play my video game consoles alongside my computer. All I need to do is press a button and I can easily switch between them. Overall, the AOC Vitta T2242we LED monitor TV is a bang for the buck. Just make sure you understand their warranty before purchasing.
