I have many hobbies, but my favorite out of all of them is scrapbooking. I started my albums when my youngest was born and as of today (14 years later), I have a treasure trove of memories that are so much fun to go back and look through. It is an artistic and photographic history of our lives. I have albums for myself, then copies for each child. Yes, it was (is) a lot of work but I just know one day when I hand it over to them to take through the rest of their lives, they will appreciate it.
You don’t have to be “the creative type” to create beautiful albums. I hear that a lot from friends who have asked me to create their books for them. However, scrapbooking is meant to be personal, it is like creating a quilt to pass down to your children and grandchildren. Creative ideas abound on many websites and crafting blogs. Each person has their own personal favorites. I tend to be attracted to blogs that are colorful, easy to read, give before and after shots of the work for guidance and lists of supplies they used to gain the result. One thing to always remember, ideas are only guides, let your imagine run a little, you will start to love it! I have found my best albums are the ones that are simple and elegant without a lot of clipart, die cuts, penning and stickers.
This blog is very informative and gives great insight into not only scrapbook designs, but one of the most important attributes of your album, journaling. I love the journaling prompts and ideas for quotes for my pages.
Stamping – The Fun Times Guide
I got into stamping to make my own greeting cards but also found that stamping is another great technique for original albums. You can turn any stamping idea into a scrapbook album page.
Layout a Day
Time challenged? Think you can’t get albums done? If you do one page a day for 30 days, look what you would have. I once went on a scrapbooking retreat weekend; I did an entire 45 page (front and back) album. I used simplicity to get it done, it is a beautiful album, and you can do it! I love the small handmade album ideas and the humor on this blog.
In the beginning I used a pair of scissors and a paper cutter to create my albums. Today, I have advanced to the Cricut Expression. If you like paper crafts, put this on your Christmas List!! They have many tutorials and examples on scrapbooks, ideas for this machine are limited only by your imagination.
Last but not least, I bring to you digital scrapbooking. While I favor the hands on method because it leaves a part of me behind one day for historical reasons, digital scrapbooking is here to stay. Some people may like it better because you don’t have to have a lot of room, supplies or even a lot of creativity, you can concentrate on just getting your album done. I use digital scrapbooking for quick gifts for a friend or family member’s event such as a birthday or going away party. This blog has some beautiful creations, but there is a plethora of options to explore if you find yourself interested in digital scrapbooking.
