Ann Coulter may seem demonic to a lot of her enemies, especially on the left. Now that Coulter has a new book out that calls liberals Demonic and compares them to a mob, it certainly won’t help her reputation among Democrats. But conservatives may have more than enough praise for her to keep her standing as one of the biggest — and most divisive — political columnists in the business.
This time, Coulter courts controversy with her latest book Demonic: How The Liberal Mob Is Endangering America. In it, she explains that the left-wing is basically a mob that worships the likes of President Obama because it doesn’t have “a real savior.”
Such charges aren’t really new from the controversial writer, who has been the scourge of the left for years. But she has set such a high/low bar with her past statements and arguments, it has been hard for her to top herself. After all, she called for America to convert Muslim leaders to Christianity after 9/11, and said her own regret about Timothy McVeigh was that “he did not go to the New York Times building,” according to Political Quotes.
With her new book, Coulter stands to offend liberals by saying that “mob uprisings” are mainly a left-wing, Democratic phenomenon. To that end, she attacks the civil rights movement for making “mobs respectable” and praises the shootings at Kent State for ending the student riots of the 60s.
Left-wingers would likely argue back that the Tea Party and those who bomb abortion clinics are much more dangerous than liberal activists. However, Coulter told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that today’s Tea Party is “the only thing more peaceful than the original Boston Tea Parties.”
What’s more, according to the Daily Caller, she argues that abortion clinic bombers are more like the celebrated protestors in Tiananmen Square. To her, since liberals have made Roe v Wade the law of the land and won’t let Americans vote on abortion, abortion clinic violence does not fall under that of a political mob. As such, it lets her preserve her viewpoint that political violence is strictly a left-wing trend.
Compared to the likes of Beck and the Tea Party, Coulter hasn’t been as much of a demonic figure for the left lately — yet her new book stands to change that. But she can still be useful for liberals and their arguments for 2012, as she told CNN’s Piers Morgan that even she doesn’t think Sarah Palin should run for president — despite being “the biggest thing on the planet” — and the GOP will lose if frontrunner Mitt Romney wins the nomination.
Coulter’s interview blitz continues on The View this morning while fans flock to buy Demonic in book stores after its release Tuesday.
