Animal Haven is one of the Kansas City areas largest non-profit, no-kill shelters. They do adoptions and they are the largest organization for lost and stray pets in Johnson County . There are many ways to support this organization even if a pet is not in your plans for now. This shelter is always in need of supplies and money to keep the animals in it safe from kill shelters and off the streets.

Hearts of America Humane Society
This organization works with the Ottawa and Lee’s Summit shelters to manage a spay/neuter program and to increase pet adoptions to permanent homes. Most of the pets available for adoption can be found on petfinder.com. When you find the pet that you are looking for, go to their website and fill out the paper work so that your information may be sent to the foster home for that animal. This is totally volunteer run and is always in need of funding and supplies.
This organization may also be found at your local PETsMART on certain adoption days. They have adopt-a-thons and many other events throughout the year. Check them out and support this local animal shelter.
Humane Society of Greater Kansas City
This area shelter has been providing care and finding homes for animals in Kansas City for the last 99 years. This shelter provides education, adoptions, preventative vet care and spay/neuter services. Most of the animals available for adoption will be listed on petfinder.com and also available to meet at the shelter. As with most other shelters they are always looking for volunteers, financial support and families to adopt one or more of their animals.
This shelter is a no-kill shelter and not-for-profit, any animal adopted leaves another space open for another unwanted dog or cat, saving them from other kill shelters.
