‘American Idol’ Top 8 Power Rankings: With Pia Toscano Gone, Who is No. 1

Power rankings being what they are, they are no match for the vicissitudes of the voting public who have access to computers and cell phones where they can punch in hundreds of votes for one or more contestants. The shocking elimination of frontrunner Pia Toscano on last week’s Top 9 results show was ample proof of that. But gone she is from the “American Idol” Season 10 line-up, so someone else has to take the topmost perch. Going into the Top 8 performance week, where the musical theme will be “Songs From The Movies,” who seems to have a leg up on their competitors — and who seems most likely to be eliminated?

TV Guide’s power rankings has Stefano Langone in last place again this week. Then Jacob Lusk hits 7th, falling somewhat, possibly due to his “preachy” effort with last week’s performance of “Man In The Mirror.” Then, Paul McDonald, who was tied with Stefano last week, bows in. Lauren Alaina remained stationary, but Haley Rinehart vaulted over Casey Abrams to take the third spot in the Guide’s power ranking, leaving Casey in fourth. Scotty McCreery and James Durbin then moved up a sport to Numbers 2 and 1, respectively.

“Idolator,” a website devoted to all things reality show, has their own power rankings system. Unlike TV Guide, they have Paul McDonald in last place, with Stefano in the No. 7 slot. But instead of Jacob Lusk being in the Bottom 3, they have him in the Top 3, holding down the No. 3 position. “Idolator” sees Haley Reinhart in the No. 6 spot. In ascending order, they see Lauren Alaina, Casey Abrams, the aforementioned Jacob Lusk, Scotty McCreery, and James Durbin taking the 5-1 positions, with Scotty and James both ascending (Scotty jumping Jacob, who remained in the same position he was in last week on the list).

But with Pia Toscano gone, who did the professionals find to take her place? Bodog. com, the sports and event betting website, also had Pia likely to win “American Idol” this season. So who took her place with the oddsmakers? Country crooner Scotty McCreery. And country songstress Lauren Alaina. Both come in at 5/2 odds to win it all. Not far behind is rocker James Durbin at 7/2 and Haley Rinehart at 13/2. The least likely to win. It appears to be Stefano Langone. He places at 25/1 to win it all.

All in all, going into the Top 8 week, it isn’t looking good for Stefano. But for Lauren, Scotty, and James, things couldn’t be brighter. But, then, that’s probably what Pia Toscano thought going into the Top 9 results show…
