American Idol Season 10 April 14th Elimination Show

Last night’s (April 14, 2011) American Idol results show the results were not quite as shocking as they had been the previous week. Like every other week to sort of soften the blow they had some performances and guest stars to that help to keep things interesting in between the sending of the lowest three contestants to to the bottom three.

Last night they did things a little differently. Instead of having one group performance with all of the contestants they had a couple duets, and one foursome where the contestants got to perform.

Starting off the night was a performance by the shows two country contestants Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina. They performed Lady Antebellum’s “American Honey.” It was a really cute performance they sing nicely together.

They then showed a clip of the making of the Ford video while half of the contestants got to dress up like Zombies. They showed how they got made up and such. Then they showed the actual video. I always enjoy those videos.

Haley Reinhart and Casey Abrams also did a duet. They sang a Jazz song called, “Moanin.” They both have a great handle on Jazz and did an excellent job of scatting. They both shined and it was a really cool performance.

Then it was time to bring things down a little bit and add the first person to the bottom 3. Since Scotty, Lauren, Haley, and Casey already performed they were brought up first. Scotty was the first sent back to safety, while Haley ended up being the first person in the bottom 3.

After the first bottom three there was a performance from Kelly Clarkson and Jason Aldeen who sang, “Don’t You Wanna Stay.”

They also had a video clip where Rob Reiner (director, producer, writer, actor, Meat Head) came in and talked to them about the importance of music and songs in movies. This of course tied in to the movie theme of the week.

Then the four remaining guys: Paul McDonald, Jacob Lusk, Stefano Langono, and James Durbin all performed together. They sang, “The Sound of Silence and Mrs. Robinson,” By Simon and Garfunkel and of course from the movie “The Graduate.”

Then fun time was over. it was time to reveal which 2 of the four guys would end up in the bottom 3. James was sent back to safety right away, and Stefano was quickly sent to the bottom 3. Then it was between Paul and Jacob. It ended up being Paul who went to the bottom 3.

After announcing that only women have been sent home so far in the competition Ryan revealed that Haley would be the one to break the streak as he sent her back to the couch of safety.

It was then between Paul and Stefano. It was then revealed that Paul would be the one to go home. He took it very graciously. He sang Maggie Mae as his swan song as requested by Jennifer Lopez. He did a really nice job and showed his trademark smile as he was leaving.

Since Paul has such a unique voice I think if he has a talent for writing songs or finds the right song writer for him he can do really well. I wish him the best, he truly seems like a really nice guy.

On an offbeat note, I just realized that no former Idols have ever formed a band or a group together before I just find that kind of odd that out of all of the contestants over all of these years that this has never happened. Jordan Sparks did have Blake Lewis in one of her videos and of course Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson made a movie together but those are the only collaborations of former contestants that I can think of. If there are any others I have forgotten about or don’t know of please feel free to leave a comment and enlighten me.
