Actress Paula Patton to Wear Custom Hat to Kentucky Derby for Diabetes Research

The Kentucky Derby is known for its roses, horses, drinks, parties and hats and on May 7, 2011, actress Paula Patton will wear a special, one-of-a-kind hat that was designed specifically for the event. The hat has been created in conjunction with GREY GOOSE Vodka and famed hat maker Louise Green and will be sold through auction to raise funds for diabetes research following the Kentucky Derby.

Vice President and Managing Director of GREY GOOSE VODKA released a statement in a press announcement, “We’re thrilled to have Paula Patton join in our GREY GOOSE tradition. She is a wonderful talent who shares our passion in raising awareness to The Barnstable-Brown Foundation. As in years past, this year’s hat designed by Louise Green is a tribute to their remarkable efforts.”

The Kentucky Derby is held every year on the first Saturday in May and what takes thoroughbred horse jockeys years of preparation culminates in two minutes. Though the sporting event is the crowning event of the Kentucky Derby Festival, many are excited to see the red carpet arrivals and fashion attire, accessories and hats donned by celebrities. The announcement of Paula Patton’s custom GREY GOOSE hat has stirred plenty of attention and excitement. Paula released a statement to the press, “I’m so honored to attend the Derby and to wear the one-of-a-kind GREY GOOSE designer hat in support of such a worthy cause,” she said.

The hat is currently on auction at Charity Buzz where the auction runs from May 4, 2011 until May 17, 2011. Photos of Paula Patton and the hat are available on the site. Benefits from the auction will benefit the Barnstable Brown Foundation.

According to Louisville Edu, the Barnstable Brown Foundation raises funds for diabetes through several methods each year including the Kentucky Derby party and the Barnstable Brown Gala. Patricia Barnstable Brown, her children Christopher Barnstable Brown and Priscilla Lee Barnstable, as well as Patricia’s mother, Wilma Haverly Barnstable lead the foundation which was launched in memory of Patricia Barnstable Brown’s husband David E. Brown who lost his fight against diabetes in 2003.

Those interested in bidding on the GREY GOOSE Vodka Kentucky Derby 2011 hat may do so at Charity Buzz.
