ACM Awards 2011 Winners Mostly Led by Lambert

The ACM awards 2011 winners seemed to be just one person. Yet not all of the awards went to Miranda Lambert, as the Academy let the fans choose a different winner for the big prize. Lambert cleaned up with three victories for “The House That Built Me” alone, and one for Female Vocalist of the Year. With that kind of display, winning for Entertainer of the Year seemed like a slam dunk – yet Taylor Swift still has some pull among country fans.

The regular Academy of Country Music voters gave Lambert the most wins of the night, but they had no control over the Entertainer prize. With that, the fans voted for Swift, although she didn’t claim any other award during the night.

Despite all of her success beforehand, Swift had never won this particular prize. Although two-time defending champion Carrie Underwood wasn’t nominated, Swift had to go through Lambert, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Toby Keith and Jason Aldean to pull off the upset. Having already lost for Female Vocalist of the Year, it seemed that Swift wouldn’t have a good shot to do better.

But even without a fifth victory, Lambert did very well for herself. In particular, the ACM seemed to give “The House That Built Me” most of the awards, as it was the winner for Single Record, Song and Video of the Year. Afterward, she won her second consecutive Female Vocalist trophy.

Yet Lambert has nothing on Brad Paisley, who continues to dominate the Male Vocalist category, winning for the fifth year in a row. Meanwhile, Lady Antebellum racked up honors for Vocal Group and Album of the Year for “Need You Now,” while The Band Perry broke in as the Best New Vocal Duo/Group and Artist.

Otherwise, the show went a lot like the CMAs in November, as Lambert led the winners yet again. But in that competition, Paisley was the surprise choice as Entertainer of the Year, while he fell short of the upset at the AMAs. The last big country awards show of 2010 had Lambert clean up, except for the end, and the same formula was repeated to start the 2011 circuit.

But even if she doesn’t win the biggest categories of all, it is clear that Lambert is on top of the country music world otherwise. Yet Swift had that honor beforehand, and last night showed that she isn’t giving it up without a fight.

The 2011 AMA awards honored the very best in country – but for much of the night, that applied to only one person and one song. However, Lambert couldn’t be the winner in every single category, as much as she tried.
