I do love spaghetti dishes and I am always looking for new and different pasta sauces to try out. Recently, I came across a jar of Prego Heart Smart Onion & Garlic Pasta Sauce in the unrefrigerated pasta sauces section of my local favorite grocery store. I am an onion lover, I could not pass this one up. I decided to purchase it, try it and write a product review all about my experience with it. Here is what I discovered!
I bought one jar of Prego Heart Smart Onion & Garlic Pasta Sauce for around two dollars. A decent deal for a name brand spaghetti sauce. Each jar has five servings in it. This sauce has an American Heart association sticker on it. That means that this product meets the AHA criteria for saturated fat and cholesterol. That is nice. We all want to fight heart disease. This sauce helps. It has very little fat, calories and no cholesterol in it. Fabulous! I could not wait to taste it.
It is perfect for microwave cooking and that is how I chose to prepare it. You can also heat this sauce up on the stove top, stirring occasionally, over medium heat. I added cooked spaghetti noodles, cooked hamburger meat with onions and this sauce, topped with Parmesan cheese. The dish smelled great and looked yummy!
When I tasted Prego Heart Smart Onion & Garlic Pasta Sauce, I liked it. It is tasty, with lots of onions and garlic flavor. For a heart healthy spaghetti sauce, it is near perfect. Sort of. I rate it three stars out of five stars. I must admit, additions help this sauce out, in the way of Parmesan cheese and spices. Often, I add mushrooms and garlic to my homemade spaghetti dish. Some like to add olives, cheddar cheese and such. All will help this sauce. And make it less heart healthy, but so tasty. Oh, well. This is a good sauce and I am proud of Prego for bringing it to us. It has more than a full serving of vegetables. Awesome!
