A Review of Campbell’s Chunky Old Fashioned Potato Ham Chowder

When I came across a large can of Campbell’s Chunky Old Fashioned Potato Ham Chowder, in the canned soup section of my local grocery store, I was intrigued. This soup looked different and creative. I could not resist it. I decided to buy it, try it out and write a product review all about the experience. Here is what I discovered!

The promise of tender roasted ham really tempted me into buying this soup. I usually like most chowder type dishes. One can of Campbell’s Chunky Old Fashioned Potato Ham Chowder costs two dollars and thirty cents. Not a bad price for a name brand soup. One can has two servings in it. This chowder has large chunks of potatoes, roasted ham, herbs, spices, nonfat milk, buttermilk, Romano cheese, cream, natural smoke flavoring and many other ingredients in it. I could not wait to taste it!

I discovered that this chowder is cooked with care in the USA. Wonderful! This soup is perfect for microwave cooking and that is how I chose to prepare it. You do not need to add any water to this product. I poured the contents of the can into a large microwave safe bowl, covered, heated on high for a few minutes, let stand in my microwave for one minute then stirred well and served. This dish looked great and smelled fabulous! When I tasted Campbell’s Chunky Old Fashioned Potato Ham Chowder, I liked it. It is creamy, rich and has an old fashioned chowder recipe taste. The chunks of roasted ham are delicious and I would like to have seen a few more chunks of it. This chowder has lots of potatoes and they are good. The flavor of this soup is helped by the Romano cheese, but it could have used a bit more flavor, in my opinion. This chowder is hearty and a great comfort food dish. I think adding corn to it would be nice. Just a thought.

I rate it four stars out of five stars and will probably buy it again. One serving has 190 calories in it. 100 of those calories come from fat. One serving has 11 grams of total fat, 4 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams of trans fat, 20 mg’s of cholesterol, 800 mg’s of sodium, 17 grams of total carbs, 3 grams of dietary fiber, 1 gram of sugars and 6 grams of protein. This chowder does have a small amount of iron in it.

I enjoyed trying Campbell’s Chunky Old Fashioned Potato Ham Chowder and writing this product review about it. It is affordable, tasty and fun to eat. I liked the easy open flip top lid. This soup does eat like a meal and it is high in quality. I would like to see it have more ham flavor. Still, overall, it is a winner. Something different for a quick meal.
