A Day in the Life of a Foster Dog

I’m Merry! I’m solid black with a few white hairs. Don’t let that fool you, because I’m just about a year old, so if you pick me, rest assured, we will have many happy years together!

I love learning, and I know sit, lay down, and stay. I’m especially good at these when there are treats involved! My parents keep trying to get me to do funny things like shake paws and roll over. Once my dad asked me to fetch the newspaper! I know he was kidding though, because I had already ‘walked pretty’ with my mom and big sister to the mailbox and back to get the paper.

I play really nicely with my big sister. And I mean big! She’s a scaredy cat though. I mean, what 85 lb dog is scared of a Chihuahua?
I’m only around 25 pounds and still have a lot of growing to do. I’m not one of those girls that watches their figure. I LOVE food!
I do have one dietary restriction. The only human foods that I am ever allowed to eat are peanut butter and cheese. I’m learning to be okay with that though, because I like to be healthy.

I like to run and I can run really fast. Once this other dog, Oscar, he’s a hound that I play with at the dog park, well, he challenged me and my sister to a race. My sister got distracted by a toy or a leaf or the air or whatever else distracts my strange sister, and well I ran really fast, faster than Oscar who was bigger than me (but not as big as my sister), and I beat him. I won the race! My mommy was really happy, because we have started running together. I love running with my mommy. My only complaint is that she is too slow. My mommy was happy that I won the race, because later that day when we went for a run, she could keep up with me. Silly mommy.

I love car rides also. I love them so much that when my daddy’s truck pulls up the driveway, I jump in the driver’s seat. I’m not supposed to do that, but I just get so excited to see my daddy at the end of the day that I can’t help myself. I’m not a daddy’s girl though, that would be my big sister. She also thinks she’s a lap dog, which is just plain silly. I, however, am the perfect size to sit in your lap and let you pet me and love on me.

I’m fairly independent for a dog my age, but I still need some rules and boundaries, like proper toys chew on, a responsible human to let me outside to do my business, (and not get upset if I have an accident in the house. I’m still a puppy, you see), a crate to sleep in at night (sorry boys I don’t do sleepovers. I’m not that type of dog. Besides, I can’t have puppies. It’s not that I don’t like kids, you see, it is just that there are so many dogs without homes. I’m not picky about dogs, like some humans are. Whenever someone asks me what my favorite dog breed is, I tell them, ‘Rescues are my favorite.’

I guess that’s all for now. I’ve got a lot more running and learning to do today.
