8 Family Friendly Restaurants in Salt Lake City

If you have a large family like me, finding a place to take the whole family on a budget isn’t exactly easy. Here are eight great restaurants in Salt Lake City and surrounding areas where you can take the whole gang for relaxing sit-down dining or a quick bite on the go and not spend a fortune doing it.

Ab’s Drive In

Established in 1951, the hey-day of the American Drive-In, Ab’s has been serving up classic American fare (burgers, fries, and shakes) ever since. With two locations, and a printable web coupon worth a dollar off any value meal, the prices are what you’d expect to pay at a fast food joint; the atmosphere at Ab’s comes at no additional charge. Weekend specials include .99 burgers and .69 corndogs. Find them in West Valley or West Jordan.

Big Apple Pizzeria

Located in Mill Creek and Fork Union, the Big Apple Pizzeria is a mix between gourmet pizza and the neighborhood pizza shop. All dinner entrees are under $10.00 and they offer daily specials for half that price. The children’s menu is priced under $5.00, as well.

Blue Plate Diner

This drive-in style, family owned restaurant is over-the-top trendy without the price. Without a single menu item over $12.00, the whole family can eat great without breaking the bank. They offer fare that will please any child, and specialties that grown-ups will love too. Find them at 2041 South 2100 East Salt Lake City, or visit their website, here.

NYPD Pizza

Technically, this is a franchise rather than a Mom and Pop, but they aren’t on every street corner yet, and they have only one location in the Salt Lake Valley. Located at 129 East 13800 South, they are just off I-15. They toss – yes, actually toss – their own pizza crust. They offer .99 cent slices, and you can get a free cheese pizza for the kids when you order a pizza for the parents on Tuesdays.

Porcupine Grille

The rustic and homey atmosphere of this classic grille welcomes entire families with mountain charm. Entrees are reasonably priced around $15.99, but they also have more extravagant choices. Kids 10 and under can order off a menu for under $6.00. Find the Porcupine at the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Pat’s “In Your Face” Barbeque

Loud, fun, and messy…that’s always the best BBQ. Pat’s has been featured as a “Bargain Bite” on KSL, and “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” (Food Network) stopped by for a visit, so you know the food is great. Live entertainment on the weekends, and the prices are just as family-friendly as the staff. Visit their website for more information.

Peppers Pita Sandwiches

Located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, this is a friendly, very casual restaurant. Everything on the menu is under $10.00, most under $6.00. Visit their website for a look at their menu, here.

The Lion House Pantry

This cafeteria-style restaurant offers entrees from $7.00-$13.00 and is located in the historic Temple Square area of Salt Lake City. If you have picky eaters, this is an affordable answer and convenient for a day in the city. Check them out, here.
