5K Family Fun Run in Atlanta, Georgia

Bring your family, and your friendly dogs too, to help The Atlanta Children’s Shelter raise money through their 5K Run/Walk for our homeless children and their families. Proceeds go toward keeping the shelter up and running, getting families into homes, providing food and personal items, and so much more.

The Atlanta Children’s Shelter’s 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, June 11th, 2011 at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, Georgia. Pre-registration is available online at a discount, or you can simply register on-site at 7:30am on the day of the event, with the Run/Walk beginning at 9 am. Everyone is asked to join and support this worthy cause. If running or walking just isn’t an interest of yours, 100 volunteers over the age of 16 are needed to help with the event. Without people like you and your family, the Atlanta Children’s Shelter would not be as successful as it today. Most of its funds come directly from donations, sponsors, fundraisers and events like this.

The Atlanta Children’s Shelter opened its doors in 1986 and has helped over 8,000 homeless children and their families with opportunities that they, without the shelter, probably would not have access to. Its goal is not only to give necessities, but to also try and provide as much normalcy as possible, with things like field trips, birthday parties, and Christmas gifts; none of which would be possible without funds and volunteers like you.

There is no better experience than to give of yourself, at any age. The Atlanta Children’s Shelter is always in need of volunteers, ages 12 and over. Bring your children and make it a family affair. Donate your time by giving to those who need it so much. Help by reading to the children, feeding the little ones, just simply playing with them, and offering them your attention; a big thing that so many of them do not get. Chaperon field trips to places like the Georgia Aquarium and Zoo Atlanta, host a fundraiser like “Jeans Day,”where employees pay $5 to wear blue jeans and dress casual while the senior management has to pay $25. Volunteer at Christmas by in-taking or wrapping gifts, maybe even adopting a family for the holidays.

This is a life-changing action that you can do with your family, toward helping other families. You are needed and every little thing you do is greatly appreciated.
