5 Signs of Vitamin Deficency

Vitamins are needed for the body to function properly when you are vitamin deficient your body loses it ability to perform as efficient as it could. Over a period of time if the deficiency is allowed to continue other problems can develop. Therefore knowing the key signs of vitamin deficiency can help you to avoid some health complications in the future.

#1 Hair, Skin and Nails

Some tale-tale signs of vitamin deficiency is in the areas of your hair, skin and nails. If you have went from strong, hard nails to nails that are splitting and cracking that could be a sign of a lack of needed vitamins. Other signs to consider are hair falling out, or changes in texture to weak and brittle, or your skin becomes dry and irritated it is a sign of possible vitamin deficiency. Some common nutrients that may be lacking in these areas are likely B vitamins such as biotin and B12 along with omega-fatty acids.

#2 Neurological Symptoms

Research is beginning to connect the signs between some neurological symptoms and vitamin deficiency. Some patients with Parkinson’s, restless legs syndrome and schizophrenia have been identified as suffering from vitamin deficiencies. Vitamins that may be lacking in these instances are complex B vitamins, Vitamin E and omega fatty acids.

When you are deficient in vitamins your body needs you immune system is compromised and therefore cannot protect your body from invaders as needed. For instance celiac disease or inflammatory bowel disease can prevent normal vitamin absorption, and cannot be treated with vitamin supplements alone. Diabetes and thyroid disease can cause similar problems also and require immediate attention of a qualified physician.
