Acne plagues millions of teens and adults in the US alone. Some have severe cystic acne which needs treatment and a special skin care regimen from a dermatologist; however most acne sufferers have mild to moderate acne. Face washes for acne are the first and critical step in preventing future acne breakouts. However, if your skin changes with the season, like mine does, then one formula of acne wash won’t work for you year round. Here are three affordable, yet effective acne cleansers that accommodate the seasonal changes of my skin.
Even Dry Skin Gets Acne
During the winter my skin becomes dry and I have to change acne cleansers to accommodate my skins changing needs. Even though my skin is drier, I can’t use regular moisturizing face washes for acne because they leave behind too much oil and do nothing to help shed the dry skin that can clog my pores. What works for me is Olay Total Effects 7 in 1 Anti Aging Salicylic Acid Blemish Control Acne Cream Cleanser Plus for $5.97 at Walmart. This cleanser contains salicylic acid, which my acne seems to respond to better than benzoyl peroxide, to help remove dead skin and clear my pores of dirt. However, this acne wash does not dry my face out. My face does not feel tight, the skin around my nose does not peel either like it does with harsher acne cleansers. Plus, I am in my 30s now so I am more in tune with using anti-aging products to help thwart premature wrinkles and age spots so this cleansers helps to address those needs for me as well.
Combination Skin is Tricky for Acne-Prone Skin
Face washes for acne that work well for combination skin is tricky. For me I have the opposite kind of combo skin. My T-zone is dry while the rest of my face is oily. Back in highschool I used to use Noxema cold cream cleanser on my face during the fall and spring months because it cleaned my face well without drying out my skin. While, my old favorite is still around I remember it did not do a lot for my acne. So when Noxema came out with a new cleanser that also treats acne, Noxzema Clean Blemish Control Daily Scrub for $5.49 at Walgreens, I gave it a try. This acne cleanser contains salicylic acid and cleans my face the way the old cream did leaving my face feeling fresh with that old familiar tingle but with the added benefit of acne control.
Oily Skin Acne Control for the Summer
The summer is when I am prone to have breakouts the most. My skin goes into oil making overdrive as the heat and humidity rise along the east coast. I need face washes for acne that are sensitive and can calm the redness of my inflamed pimples. Neutrogena Redness Soothing Facial Cleanser Oil-Free Acne Wash for $6.97 at Walmart is gentle enough for my sensitive skin and is strong enough to fight my acne and eliminate oil. I love that this acne wash significantly reduces the redness of my skin, so I don’t have to wear my usual foundation and can get by with just a tinted moisturizer for the day.
If you have ever-changing skin like I do, you know the struggles of finding an acne cleanser that takes care of your acne along with your other skin care needs. These three face washes for acne help control my breakouts year round while addressing my other skin care needs with the changing seasons. Being the cheap beauty maven that I am, these washes are all under $10 so they will not hurt you purse.
