2011 Spring & Summer Craft Shows: Northeast & Central Pennsylvania

Throughout the summer months, there are five must-visit craft shows in the northeast and central area of Pennsylvania. Take a weekend once a month to indulge in delicious food, talented entertainment, and exceptional crafts.

April The Renaissance Jamboree kicks off craft show season on April 30 on Main Street in Bloomsburg. Promoted by the Columbia Montour Chamber of Commerce , this annual arts and crafts festival features over 250 craft vendors, live entertainment, and food vendors. As an alumnus of Bloomsburg University, I am familiar with the jamboree and have attended it many times. There is truly something for everyone to see and do during the jamboree. Parking is available at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds and a free shuttle is provided. Downtown Bloomsburg is beautiful; it’s the perfect place to begin summer craft season.

May – The Mayfair Festival of the Arts takes place May 26 – 30 in Allentown, PA. The festival, which has attracted over 50,000 visitors in previous years, features an arts and crafts market, a culinary market, an organic market, and a kids market. There is a battle of the bands competition, breakdance challenge and open mic night for entertainment. The Mayfair Festival takes place in Allentown’s Cedar Beach Park. This festival is unique because it’s a fusion of country crafts and urban atmosphere.

June The Antiques and Arts Festival Lansdale Day is being held June 4 – 6 in downtown Lansdale. Promoted by SLS Productions, Inc. the festival is one of the major fundraisers for the Rotary Club of North Penn . Proceeds from the event help community charities. The festival showcases artists, artisans, and antique dealers. Local restaurants provide great food and there is live entertainment. Aside from crafts, the festival also includes Pet Alley, which is dedicated to pet related items and organizations. Be sure to visit this festival, the proceeds go to a great cause.

July – Kutztown Folk Festival is being held July 2 – 10 at the Kutztown Fairgrounds. The festival features over 200 craftsmen including blacksmiths, wood carving, stained glass, hex signs, pottery, and weaving. The quilt barn has over 2,500 handmade quilts and wall-hangings on display and for sale. Food at the folk festival includes traditional Pennsylvania Dutch goodies like soups, sausage, chicken pot-pie, funnel cake, and shoo-fly pie. There are several stages and common areas with entertainment for adults and children. Full of great folklore and handmade crafts, this is a terrific cultural event.

August – The Pocono State Craft Festival is being held this year on August 27 and 28. Held at the Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm in Stroudsburg, PA, this festival showcases jewelry, clothing, stained glass, furniture, pottery and many more distinctive crafts. The festival includes diverse foods and live entertainment. Admission to all of Quiet Valley’s attractions is included in the ticket price. Quiet Valley features an historic farmhouse, school building, cabin, barn, and much more. This is the perfect place to bring the family for a day of history and crafts.
